Pulses Week 2026

About Pulses Week

Pulses Week is GLNC’s annual celebration of the power of legumes, aligned with World Pulses Day on the 10 February. This year’s theme, Level Up with Legumes, highlights how legumes can:

  • Offer an affordable, versatile way to boost nutrition and add variety to everyday meals.
  • Provide plant protein, essential vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, folate, iron, zinc, calcium and magnesium.
  • Deliver dietary fibre to support healthy digestion and a balanced gut microbiome.
  • Contribute to long-term health and wellbeing, including reducing the risk of chronic disease.

How Many Legumes Should You Be Eating?

The Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend legumes as part of both the vegetable group and as a plant-based protein alternative:

  • Vegetable serve: 75 g cooked (½ cup)
  • Protein serve: 150 g cooked (1 cup)

Just 50 g (¼ cup) per day is linked to a reduced risk of chronic disease.
